❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Go to the Players tab and tap the + button. You can create a new player by typing a name, or import from Contacts to get their profile picture. No permissions are required to add players manually.

The Players tab has a search bar at the top — type any part of a player's name to filter the list instantly.

Tap Start New Game from the Home screen (or the + in the Games tab). Select 2–6 players, arrange the dealer order by dragging players into position, then tap Start Game.

No — Score Buddy blocks duplicate names to avoid confusion in game history and stats. If you try to add a player whose name matches an existing or archived player, you'll see an inline error with guidance.

Scoring & Gameplay

In an active game, tap the orange Record Round button. Enter each player's score and toggle the phase switch if they completed their phase this round.

Swipe right on the player who was skipped. The Skip Entry sheet opens with them pre-selected as the target. Tap who played the Skip card, and it saves automatically. Alternatively, tap ⋯ → Quick Actions → Record Skip to open the skip sheet manually.

Yes — for 30 seconds after recording a Skip, an Undo banner appears at the top of the active game screen. Tap Undo to remove it. After 30 seconds, you can delete it from the Skip History sheet.

Yes. In an active game, tap ⋯ → Edit Last Round. This opens the round editor pre-populated with the saved values. Correct the scores or phases and tap Save. Only the most recently recorded round can be edited this way.

Statistics & Insights

Free users see statistics computed over their last 3 games. Upgrade to Pro to see stats across your full history with no cap.

Player Titles are dynamic labels computed from your stats — they're never stored and update as you play more games. Examples: The Aggressor (plays lots of Skip cards), Comeback Kid (often wins after trailing), Home Court Hero (wins much more at a specific location). Pro feature.

It's based on average consecutive rounds spent on a phase without completing it — not just how many times you failed it. This makes it a better measure of which phase actually blocks progress.

Location Features

No. Location is completely optional and requires you to explicitly grant permission. If you don't grant permission, the app works fully without it.

If you tag a game with a location, Score Buddy uses your approximate location (reduced accuracy for privacy) to generate a human-readable name (e.g. "Melbourne, Australia"). This is stored locally on your device only and is never sent to any server other than Apple's reverse geocoding service.

Privacy & Data

All your game data (players, scores, round history) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. It is included in your iCloud Backup if you have that enabled in iOS Settings.

Go to Settings → Data & Storage → Delete All Data. This permanently removes all players, games, and stats from your device. Alternatively, deleting the app removes all local data.

Purchases & Billing

No. Score Buddy Pro is a one-time purchase — pay once, use forever. There are no recurring charges.

Yes. Score Buddy Pro is tied to your Apple ID. Sign in with the same Apple ID on another device and restore purchases to unlock Pro.

All purchases are processed by Apple. For refunds, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Accessibility

Yes. Every player row in an active game announces the player's rank, name, current phase, and score together. Score entry fields and phase toggles in round entry are individually labelled per player. Swipe actions (skip, remove) have dedicated VoiceOver alternatives so nothing requires a swipe gesture.

Yes. All text, badges, and icons respond to your iOS text size setting (Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text).

Technical

Score Buddy requires iOS 26.2 or later.

Check that Live Activities are enabled for Score Buddy: iOS Settings → Score Buddy → Live Activities → Allow. Also verify you have a Pro subscription, as Live Activities are a Pro feature. Live Activities are not available on iPad — this is an Apple platform limitation.
